Special benefits and considerations for HPE retirees

As an HPE retiree, here are some special items to keep in mind.

Using vacation to extend your retirement date

As an alternative to having vacation paid out in accordance with HPE’s policy in effect at the time you leave HPE (currently limited to team members whose primary worksite is in California, Colorado, Illinois, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, or Rhode Island), if you qualify as a retiree, you can use credited vacation time when approved by your people leader to extend your retirement date by up to 18 workweeks (but not beyond the end of the current calendar year, if you participate in the Executive Deferred Compensation Plan). In this case, payment of your vacation hours used will be based on your standard hourly base pay rate during your extended period of employment.

Retiree medical benefits

You may be eligible for HPE retiree medical benefits. Use the Action Planner to determine which program may apply to you.

Please note that if you qualify for the Pre-2003 HP Retiree Medical Program or the former Digital Retiree Health Program, you will participate in retiree medical coverage through HP Inc. instead of Hewlett Packard Enterprise. For more information, call the HP Benefits Center at 1-800-890-3100.

As you consider your HPE benefit continuation options as a non-Medicare-eligible retiree, you may also want to research medical coverage options available through the public health exchanges as a part of Health Care Reform, or if you’re a Medicare-eligible retiree you might consider an individual insurance option through Alight Retiree Health Solutions.

If you choose coverage through a public exchange, you will reserve your eligibility to re-enroll in HPE retiree coverage in the future if you do so within 60 days of losing your other coverage. Medicare-eligible retirees will also continue to have similar flexibility if they elect to participate in private health insurance options through Alight Retiree Health Solutions.

Retirement gift and gold badge

If you qualify as a retiree, you will receive a special retirement gift and gold badge as a token of our sincere appreciation for your dedicated service and valued contributions to HPE.

Wear your gold-colored retiree badge (Retiree Gold Badge) whenever you visit HPE sites, so others know you are a retired team member. All retirees need to comply with HPE global security practices for site access. You’ll be required to have an HPE escort to enter work areas beyond the lobby. If you have any questions regarding site access, please contact the Security Department at your location.

See details on eligibility requirements. Your people leader will place the order on your behalf.

HPE CoGenerate Fellowships (previously Encore Fellowships)

HPE funds up to four (4) CoGenerate Fellowships annually for eligible retirees. The fellowships connect seasoned HPE retirees to organizations to offer skills that most non-profits are not able to afford, and provide retirees with the ability to make a bigger impact as staff members and learn more about the non-profit sector while also earning a stipend.

  • The fellowship assignment lasts from 6 to 12 months, full-time or part-time.
  • A fellow’s commitment is to work 1000 hours.
  • The $25,000 stipend is paid by the nonprofit host through payments (normally once or twice a month) over the course of the fellowship.
  • The fellowship takes place at the site of the nonprofit host or virtually, if necessary.
