Please review this information if you’re enrolling in HPE retiree medical coverage and you or one of your covered dependents is eligible for Medicare.
Medicare prescription drug benefits (Part D) provide prescription drug coverage to Medicare-eligible beneficiaries.
Many employers, including HPE, are choosing to sponsor a Medicare Part D plan. HPE is contracting directly with our prescription benefit carrier, OptumRx, to provide these benefits to you.
- If you are a Medicare-eligible participant who enrolls in (or is enrolled in) an HPE retiree medical plan, OptumRx will provide prescription drug benefits for you through a Medicare Part D plan. If you enroll in an HPE Medicare HMO, your HMO will provide prescription drug benefits for you.
- You will not need to separately enroll in Medicare Part D. As long as you are enrolled in an HPE retiree medical plan, you will automatically be enrolled in the HPE prescription drug program with OptumRx. (Or, you will have prescription drug benefits through your HPE Medicare HMO.)
- There may be good reasons for you to have other Medicare Part D coverage, but you will need to determine the most appropriate coverage for your situation. If you would like to have other Medicare Part D coverage, you will need to “opt out” of (or elect to drop coverage under) the HPE-sponsored Medicare Part D plan. To opt out, call the HPE Benefits Center at 1-844-537-5304.
